Muktijoddha Krira Sangsad’s miseries came to an end when they finally registered their first victory of the Citycell Bangladesh League on Monday.
Having lost five times and drawn one in their previous outings of the season, Muktijoddha came from a goal down to win a five-goal thriller against Arambagh at the Bir Shrestha Shaheed Mostafa Kamal Stadium as the professional league came to a halt due to international commitment.
The league will resume in late February after the end of the SA Games and the AFC Challenge Cup.
The 3-2 win raised Muktijoddha’s tally to four points as the Reds moved one place up from the bottom-table while Arambagh remained on six points also from seven matches.
Captain Alfaz Ahmed put Arambagh ahead in the first half when the former national striker scored in the 36th minute.
But Muktijoddha, playing their away fixture, came back with skipper Rokonozzaman Kanchan equalising in the 50th minute.
Midfielder Azmal Hossain Biddyut sent the visitors ahead in the 66th minute while Furad Ali sealed the three points for the Reds in first minute of the injury time.
There were still some action in the stoppage time and Arambagh’s Kenyan striker Nicodemus reduced the margin just before the final whistle.
